Risk Factors for Falling:

  • History of Previous Falls

  • Decreased Lower Extremity Strength

How can a Physical Therapist help someone at risk of falling?

  • Promote a complete and thorough examination of the patients balance, gait speed, safe reaching ability, strength and movement.

  • Design a program to improve all noted problems.

  • Teach each patient activities to continue after discharge to help maintain the achieved improvement.

Program parameters:

  • 2-3 supervised visits per week for 3-4 weeks, 60 minute sessions
